St John's After School Club is a not-for-profit organisation that provides childcare for 4-11 year olds.

There is a breakfast, after school and holiday club.

Our goal is to provide children with an environment where they can relax and play, are we encourage them to join in various activities.

The club was founded in 1990 by a group of working parents whose children attended St John's School. However, the club now serves the whole community, and any child can be registered to attend.

Through Libacura, sessions can be booked to suit your needs. Please remember to book early, as the club is well attended, Cancellations do occur, and we can sometimes accommodate children at short notice, but please phone us beforehand!

Please read through our Family Information Pack 2016-17 for a comprehensive look at our rules and policies.

The Club was inspected by Ofsted on 13 July 2016 and rated as Good. The full report can be found here.

Nicola Old

Nicola Old

Hello! My name is Nicola Old and I have been the Manager of St John's After School Club since 2002. I have been qualified in Childcare and Childcare management for over 20 years.

The team at St John's ASC provide a happy, fun and structured environment for the children, in which they can enjoy activities before and after school, and during the holidays.

We continue to invest in the club to ensure it remains a colourful and engaging place for the children. I have a good relationship with school staff and meet with them regularly to discuss children's development and how we might be able to help with this at ASC.

I have two children of my own; a girl of three and a boy who has just turned one. Having my own children, I can completely understand the pressures of being a working parent.

A priority is that the children have a safe space in which to grow and develop. We cater for all children at St John's and the wider community, and we pride ourselves on equal opportunities for multicultural and special needs children. I operate an open door policy, so please come in and talk to me or the staff anytime. We look forward to welcoming your child to our club.

My child, Harry, has special needs. He was provided at St John’s School Holiday Club with a safe and secure environment, given imaginative and creative activities, supported by the enthusiastic, helpful and exceptionally patient staff. The holiday club is enjoyed by all the children and I look forward to more of the same for Harry during the forthcoming holiday periods. I feel the club researched well Harry’s special needs, the staff were aware and took the time with us before he joined and where necessary provided support

Being a single parent and working full time is a difficult task in itself however knowing Lance is with the guys at St Johns each day, albeit breakfast after school or holiday club, makes working life and parenting so much easier. I cannot thank the staff enough for what they do with Lance, not only have they prepared him for school life they have also helped him develop within himself, his little personality has really come out since joining the club, not only is it a fun and safe place for him to be, it is also stimulating and educating at the same time! Lance also has a key worker Joe who he has a lovely bond with, he takes care of Lance on a one to one level each day which is reassuring for me as it is nice to know how Lance is doing each day along with how he has been whenever I collect him, the fact he has a key worker also shows how much care the club puts into wanting the children and parents to feel happy and comfortable.’

My daughter, Isabel started afterschool and breakfast club from the beginning of her first term in reception. She likes going to both which gives me peace of mind. The staff provide a welcoming and friendly environment. She has settled well into the club and realises it is part of her school life. She enjoys the variety of activities which are provided. To be honest it is a struggle to get her to leave and come home sometimes!

At St John’s, the staff of both the school and club work closely together to ensure that the children move safely and happily from class to after school activities to provide a caring and happy environment for the children.

The Club is run by a parent committee which supports the wonderful staff, organises exciting fundraising activities, and discusses Club policy. The committee meets around four times a year: once at the AGM, which normally takes places in November, and also at three meetings held throughout the academic year.

The committee consists of a Chairperson, Treasurer, Staff Liaison Officer, and Secretary, plus several general members for good governance. Every year at the AGM, committee members formally stand down, which allows individuals to be re-elected, or to hand over their tasks to somebody else. Members are asked to stay on the committee for three years, but the tenure is not fixed.

If you'd like to get involved, please come to the AGM and offer what time you have - however little that might be - as without this input, the Club would simply cease to run!

Sarah Baker - Chairperson

The biggest factor which makes ASC stand out for me is the staff who are all wonderful. There are people of a variety of ages and genders who work with the children and they all have different areas of interest, which they play to. I particularly appreciate the key worker system that operates at after school club where an individual member of staff makes a special bond with a new child.

I’m sure that it helped my son to settle in more quickly. Mixing with children from KS2 has also been really beneficial as he’s learnt that they’re not scary and he really looks forward to playing football with them. The variety of activities on offer is fantastic from crafts and gardening to pool and football. Or if he’s just tired it’s also ok to just snuggle up on the cushions in the quiet area and have a quiet chat about his day too.
